Billie Jo Spearing - Boutique Owner
What makes a Hot Mamma? Positive energy, inner beauty (and let’s face it- when someone has inner beauty, they also have outer beauty), someone who balances life well, and no matter what life throws at them- they see the glass half full. Our Hot Mamma’s are working moms who “have it all”- family, career and happiness. And in true OCMAMMA style- our Hot Mamma’s are also…HOT.

Our hope is that you pat our Hot Mamma’s on the back for being able to juggle it all (with a smile on their face), and when possible- support their businesses. In every HM Spotlight you will be introduced to our HM of the Month, their kiddo and their business. If you choose to contact the HM (and we hope you do), please don’t forget to tell ‘em where you heard about their hot-ness.

How does your business help other moms and/or kids? Working with pregnant moms and helping them make the best decisions on furniture and other baby products according to their needs. I enjoy when the first-time moms actually ask my advice (as a mother) for which products I believe to be the best. I like to share my personal experiences with moms and pass-along any useful information that I may have to give.

How do you balance work and kids? Currently it is just my husband and I who run the store, so my husband works 6 days a week and I work 3 days a week while my mother watches both kids for me. The other 3 days I am home with my kids. Sundays are our family days with both my husband and myself at home with our kids.

What is your favorite activity with your kiddo? I love to watch my son interact with other kids. We try to get to the park a few times a week so he can play with the other kids. It breaks my heart on the days when we show up to the park and there is no one there. My favorite thing to do with my daughter is simply just to make her laugh and to watch her reach the milestones of her young life. The sound of a child’s giggle can always put a smile on my face.

What is one piece of advice that you could share with other mom’s? My only advice is to take time to explain things to your kids. Even when you think they are too young to understand, they will comprehend a lot more than you think they do. I have never used "baby talk" with my kids and my 3 year old son has the vocabulary of a 5 year old. My other piece of advice is – read to them. If you start when they are young, they will learn to love reading and it’s a nice time for the two of you to spend time together and bond.

What is your favorite online site for kids or moms? I’m a big online shopper and I’d have to say my favorite online site is ChildrensPlace.com where I often find myself buying more clothes, pajamas and shoes for our two kids. Our daughter is growing so fast that it seems she is in need for a larger size before my last order even arrives!

What is one of your favorite books about parenting? The one book that I am always reaching for, is "Baby 411". I keep this book nearby for easy reference when I have questions about my daughter’s health, sleeping patterns, or whenever I have questions and need general advice.

What is your biggest guilty pleasure? This probably sounds silly, but I’m usually the one who is driving around town with the kids so I am normally listening to children’s music in the car or a radio station that is "G" rated that I normally wouldn’t have on if the kids weren’t in the car. Therefore, I’d have to say that my biggest guilty pleasure is listening to my music CD’s extra loudly with my windows rolled up and singing along to the songs the minute I get in the car and I’m alone. Music has always been such a big part of my life but now with kids, I am always aware what the lyrics are saying (or even the radio DJ’s and commercials) because my 3 year old son picks up everything so quickly and repeats everything he hears.

If you won the lotto today, what would be the first thing you would spend money on? (assuming you have to buy yourself something.. I know, it is a stretch) My first thought if I were to win the lotto is that I’d want to buy a house. When we started our business, we were actually in the process of looking to buy a house and had been searching for the perfect "beginner" house. When we decided to start the business, the hopes of a house were postponed for a couple years. It was a huge sacrifice because I had wanted to buy a house more than anything, but I also knew that if our business became successful than the house would eventually come as well. A house would be my first desire, but it would also be for the entire family (not just for myself) so if you’re looking for an answer as to what I would buy just for ME – I think I’d go out and buy myself an entire new wardrobe that included everything from new clothes to new socks!
